Week One – Reflection

For the first week, we were introduced to the breakdown of marking for the module.

Our task for the first week was to find a story within Leeds that consisted of 200 words and a photograph to go alongside.

My story was to look at student life within Hyde Park, playing on the fact that it is a second home for most students and the image was two individuals walking down Brudenell Avenue as the sunset.

As this was the first week, in terms of the photo, I didn’t expect it anything from it.

Listening to feedback about simple stuff such as sizing and making sure the focus is directly on the subject was something I had never considered before as I thought ‘they’re in the photo and it isn’t blurry, so it should be good enough.’

But that isn’t the case.

The feedback was needed, it gave me the foundation and the understanding as to what takes a photo from a normal standard to a standard of professionalism and understanding of camera operating in this respect.

The task was perfect for an introductory one as I was able to showcase my writing abilities whilst also acknowledging the lack of skills I have in photography and the skills that I will be introduced to and should learn as the module progresses.
