Week Two – Reflection

In this session, we began to look at the types of photography within journalism.

As someone who doesn’t have any interest in photography, seeing the differences in the purposes that photographs can serve was very eye – opening from being the focus or on par with the text to simply being there to support the text.

Looking at the types of styles within photojournalism allowed me to think about the project we had to do and the styles that would work for me.

The professional examples that we were shown were great to see as it served as an inspiration to emulate and modify certain styles in terms of angles, depth levels.

During the workshop, we were tasked with a research task looking at a particular sub – genre of documentary photography and photographers and famous photos that fit under the sub – genre.

I focused on social documentary photography as it focuses on key points in history and included images that so many people have seen but may not know the background surrounding the photo.
